JSNE New Derasar Project Update and Naming Opportunity Announcement. Click here for details.
December 23, 2009
Jai Jinendra!
We are pleased to share with you a progress report on our JSNE Derasar (new building) project as of today.
Project Overview:
1. Purchase of 223 Middlesex Turnpike, Burlington: as you know, we completed the purchase of this building on an auspicious day, Thursday, Oct. 29th, 2009. We were able to complete the transactions using the available funds and donations received, as we shared this information to you at the Diwali function.
2. Fund Raising: Our original plan called for fund raising by donations from members and supporters of JSNE, loans from members and commercial loan (if necessary). With your support and willingness to make this Derasar a reality, the following is summary of our progress:
| Members | Pledges | Funds Received | Outstanding Balances | |
| Donations | 119 | $336,470 | $272,450 | $64,020 |
| Loans | 10 | $165,000 | $65,000 | $100,000 |
| Total | 119* | $501,470 | $337,450 | $164,020 |
*Some of the members provided donations and loans both.
As a result of this level of support, we have opted not to secure commercial loan (although it was approved and available).
Please note that at the outset of the project our goal was to have the project cost to be about $1 million plus 20% over-run contingency. Once we found the building and had some preliminary estimates we were hopeful that we could possibly get this accomplished with about $895,000.
As the town requirements and associated costs as well as the detail work is being done with long term perspective and making our Derasar provide us “look and feel” for a nice place, our project costs may turn out to be slightly higher than $1 million. As a result of this cost estimates, we plan to reach out to the members who have not yet contributed to raise additional funds. Secondly, we will have to defer some of the items to the next phase, based on available funds. As the details of the project, costs, additional funds and project timing become available with “definitive” information we will communicate them to you.
3. Design and estimating: Working with professional Architect B.D. Nayak, engineering firm of Lumus, HVAC design and others, our volunteer team is putting a great deal of efforts to finalize the internal layout, making changes to meet the town requirements, planning for Ghabaro design and its requirements etc., Great deal of progress is being made and shortly we would have the final design and specifications in hand. This would allow us to make good estimates and reach out to various sub contractors for bids. This will also provide more definite time line of project milestones and completion dates. The main water line from the city source has been brought in to the building for sprinkler system.
4. Miscellaneous: a. Volunteering: On this important project your involvement is important. You can make a real difference by your active participation and contribution of your time and energies by letting us know of your interest in volunteering. Please contact Vijay Shah so that he can match your skills and area where you could help with this project. b. Financial Report for last four years: Attached you will find a comparative financial statement for last four years.
